Dr. Arvid Temple

Dr. Arvid Temple
Dr. Arvid A. Temple's wife, Lisbet, described him as scholarly, generous and warm. He originally wanted to attend the University of Illinois, but after the school informed him they had reached their quota for Jews, he was more than happy to attend the Chicago Medical School. In addition to possessing a vast knowledge of medicine, Arvid also was well-versed in the Talmud.

His love of Judaism rubbed off on his son, Samuel, who became a rabbi. Arvid also enjoyed farming, gardening and working with wood. His love of gardening was charity-driven; the produce from Arvid and Lisbet's large garden was delivered to a food pantry every two weeks, a tradition that Lisbet has continued.

Giving was very important to Arvid. He and his wife were members of JUF's prestigious Silver Circle, and decided together that when he passed, a gift would be made to JUF. Arvid died on July 12, 2007 at the age of 89. He is warmly remembered by his wife Lisbet, son Samuel, daughter-in-law Rifka, and his five grandchildren.
